Spring 2018 FAQ
What is the registration deadline?
The deadline to register for Spring 2018 - our first ever DRAFT league - is noon on Monday March 12th.
How do I register and get put on a team?
This is CURL's first ever draft-style league. This means you'll fill out a registration form by March 12th, which includes a self-evaluation, and be drafted to a team. All registered players will be put on a team.
When will I know what team I'm on?
Players will be informed of their teams by Friday March 23rd.
When do we play?
The first games of the season will be on Monday March 26th and Wednesday March 28th. Each team plays either Monday or Wednesday at 5:30pm and Saturday at noon. The season will end on Saturday May 5th.
Where do we play?
As of now we anticipate being able to play on the same fields we used last season (field map), though please be aware that this may change.
Where can I find more information about registration?
On the registration page.
What do I do if I made a mistake filling out the registration form?
If you need to make a change please do NOT fill out a new form. Please email coed.recleague@gmail.com with the change and I will take care of it.
Is this draft thing forever?
I don't know yet if we will continue to have draft leagues interspersed with our typical "b-y-o team" style league. That all depends on how much we as a community like it. This is a sort of trial season to see if this works and we'll want to hear your feedback on it.
Will there be an experienced player rule?
No, the draft is intended to level the playing field so we do not have experienced player rule this season.
What about gender balance?
The same gender balance rules used previously apply. People with a non-binary gender identification or who prefer not to state a gender are welcome. See the League rules page for more info.

By registering, you are agreeing to this waiver. You do NOT need to be a student to play in CURL
Welcome to a very exciting season of Champaign Ultimate Rec League! This season we are having our first ever draft style league. This is an effort to encourage camaraderie between players who have traditionally played on different teams, and to eliminate the need for an experienced player rule by leveling the playing field a bit. Players will be informed of their teams by Friday March 23rd and the first games of the season will be on Monday March 26 and Wednesday March 28, and the last game will be on Saturday May 5th. Games will be Mon or Wed (depending on the week for each team) at 5:30pm and Sat at noon.
The registration deadline is NOON on March 12th, 2018.
AFTER reading the following information, you can register by clicking the link (to a google form) posted below. ALL REGISTERED PLAYERS WILL BE PUT ON A TEAM.
>>Self-evaluation: Players will rank themselves on a scale of 1-5 in the following categories: Cutting, Throwing, Defense, Athleticism, Experience. This will give a max rating of 25. Please be honest in your self-evaluation.
>> Partners: Players are allowed to partner w/ ONE other person UP TO a total of 40 combined rating points (i.e. If Mary puts Joe as her partner, Joe must put Mary as his partner). Both players must name their partner on the registration form (there will be a spot to type the name of your partner). Figure out who your partner is before starting registration.
>> Other helpful info: The form asks for what position you typically play, your general M/W/Sa availability, and for a recent photo. Photos will REALLY help our captains so please upload one if you are comfortable doing so. The photos will not be used for any purpose besides to help the captains figure out who is who during the draft.
>> There are multiple sections to click through on the registration form. Please make sure you go through the entire registration form including payment ($5) via paypal, and confirm that you receive a copy of your responses. If you don't receive a copy of your responses within a couple hours, please email coed.recleague@gmail.com. We never want the CURL fee to be a barrier to players who want to participate but find the fee to be a hardship. If that is the case for you, please get in touch with Jess at coed.recleague@gmail.com and we will work something out.
